As I awoke this morning in my bed, I came to realize that I had nothing to do with me waking up. I thanked God for another day. My body was like a machine that’s on automatic. God created this human body to function without me at least for a period of time. All I have to do is take care of it. Feed it, rest it, and exercise it; the rest it does on its own. My eyes open and close, my hearing kicks in, my fingers and toes start to move. God then said, on the contrary, “You do most everything to work against it. You don’t exercise, you eat too much, and you overwork your body. Then you get mad at me because I won’t fix it.”
Hmm. I came to realize that He was right. If we wash and wax a car, change the oil, fill it with gas, and drive it like the manual says, it should last a long time. But when we don’t do these things and it breaks down, we get mad at God because the car won’t work. God doesn’t ask for us to do much in contrast to what we have received. Later, on my drive in, God showed me His artwork through a beautiful sunrise.
I was reminded of Psalm 8, where David contemplates the skies and the stars and asks God, “What is mankind that you are mindful of him?” God reminded me He didn’t create such beauty for the benefit of inanimate objects like cars and buildings. He created it for His children. Just imagine if the whole universe was created and there was no one to enjoy it. How sad would that be for the creator? He said, “This universe I give to you to enjoy. All you have to do is take care of it. Keep it clean, share it and respect it, and it’s there for you to enjoy. But pollute it, fight over it, and deny its power, you will find that it will work against you. Smog, sickness, shortage of resources, contaminated water. Then you will get mad at me for what starts to happen.”
God’s plan is simple: He created us to experience His creation, to fulfill His plan and to let others know the same. We strive every day to work against His plan and then ask why it’s not working. Today I pray that you and I will relax in God’s presence. To follow His simple plan to enjoy and to take care of what He gave us and then you will experience the joy He envisioned. Now you are ready to go out and share it with the world.
Just a Thought…
