Genesis 2:15-17
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Is it possible to live a life without contrast? Is it possible that we could see everything as good?
Why did God want us to be shielded from having the knowledge of good and evil? God himself had this knowledge yet wanted us to be protected from it. God knew that if we were to have this knowledge, it would be too great for us to handle and that evil would win us over.
Why would we have to die by just having this knowledge? God knew that with this knowledge, we would sin. For before the fall, we had not sinned. Sin can’t not be allowed to live with God. God knew this as well and understood if we ate from the tree, we would be separated from Him by our sinful choices.
God designed us with free will instilled in us, yet He placed us in the garden without the need to know good and evil, to live with knowing everything is good. There was no need for something to be bad in order for something else to be good. Everything was good.
How peaceful life could be if we saw everything as good? Life without the need to reduce one thing to make another better.
Do you feel without the ability to compare that your free will would be taken from you? Or is it your free will that lets you decide that everything is good, and you don’t need to compare it to anything else in order to make that claim?
Unfortunately, since the fall, we are now aware of evil. I believe evil was in the world before the fall, but if Eve would not have eaten from the tree, we would not have been able to see it.
The debate if the garden was a glimpse of heaven continues, but if you can imagine what life would be like where everything was seen as good, I think you will get the chance to experience a little heaven on earth.
Just a Thought…
