Psalms 53:5
5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread; where there was nothing to dread.
Do we fear for no reason?
Is there any real fear to be had?
What about fear of…
Dying – pain
Flying – uncertainty
The dark – uncertainty
Murder – pain
Rape – pain
Going broke – uncertainty
Disease – pain
Thieves – uncertainty
Being wrong – uncertainty
Meeting a new person – uncertainty
Losing your job – uncertainty
Terrorism – Pain
Abuse – pain
Animals – pain
Lord what are we to do with these? What is at the root of these that would give us the ability not to dread?
Pain and uncertainty are at the root.
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The peace you offer – is this your answer That we will receive a peace that can fill in for uncertainty or relieve the deepest of pain? You showed that Daniel was untouched by the lions and that Stephen fell asleep while being stoned. Yet Jesus felt every lashing and David fled with fear.
Lord, I ask you, where is it?
Maybe it’s not peace but maybe it’s perseverance?
Jesus did persevere that is for sure.
You use sayings like:
Consider it pure joy when facing trials
That You will never leave us
To be still and know that you are God
Do not worry
Do not be afraid
You have overcome the world
You will give us peace that transcends understanding
We are to comfort those as we are comforted…
To combat uncertainty, we must stay in the moment and recall what we know to be true.
To combat pain, we also must stay in the moment and recall what we know to be true.
So, with that reminder, we will trust You for today and claim Your promises. Should the fear or pain not go away, we still proclaim You are God for strength and peace will carry us through.
Just a Thought…
