A Price To Pay

JOHN 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

“To provide this radiant Peace for you, I died a criminal’s death”.

Jesus calling Sarah young

When we hear Jesus say peace be with you at times it’s comes across as just a word.  Although the word has meaning we do take time to think about what it took for this word to have true power.

If you or I were to say to one another, peace be with you it would come as a hopeful thought for someone. We hope that person can find peace somewhere, somehow.

It’s nothing we can give. The best we can do is try and talk them down or sit with them.

Our words have no power.

Jesus on the other hand has a tangible experience attached to the word peace that can be actually given.

We are given his peace. He literally gives us his peace. It’s not a hopeful thought or an encouraging word he is expressing.  It is something we can feel that comes over us.

It’s unexplainable, he says his peace which transcends all understanding will guard our hearts and mind.

Philippians 4:7 (ESV)

7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Now in order for a person to give away something they must first possess it.

Jesus had to die a brutal death on a cross to achieve the peace he now gives.

He had to complete God’s mission of death and resurrection in order to accumulate this type of peace.

When he says he will give us his peace and that his peace is different than that the world can offer, it’s because his peace came at a price and has only been achieve by him.

Nobody else in the world can give us a peace that overcomes all the world throws at us.

Jesus took every sinful scenario we can ever imagine to the grave in his death and buried it for all of eternity then rose above it when he was resurrected.

He knows true peace, a peace that has no threads of doubt, fear or anxiety attached. It’s one hundred percent pure.

So when Jesus offer us his peace we need to always remember the price he paid to give us this gift.

It’s not just a word to him it’s a part of his being.

Beyond the glorious gift of eternity we receive and beyond his holy spirit that he planted within us, peace is the glue that holds it all together.

Peace is the outcome of our faith in his death and resurrection.

So when we accept Jesus peace there will be a true transformation of our physical and mental being.

Sit in the presence of Jesus and absorb his peace into every part of your mind and body. Meditate long and hard about the price that he had to pay and then begin to thank him.

Peace be with you. The only way I can back that statement up is to direct you to Jesus.

Knowing that if you indeed turn towards him you will achieve the peace you are seeking.

The next time I am about to say peace be with you I should actually say, “Jesus be with you.”

Just a thought
