Face The Facts

Romans 4:19-21

19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.

Can we separate the facts from our faith?

Such as, the fact is:
I’m overweight
I’m tired
I’m fearful
I’m angry
I’m hurt
I’m lonely
I’m tempted
I’m broke
I’m single
I’m divorced
I’m sick
I have a disease
I’m homeless
I’m out of work
I was betrayed
I was abused 

Those can be true facts.  Can we face those facts without weakening our faith?

Hebrews 11:1

11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Can God still be God in all his glory while we face these ugly facts?  How does that work?

Here are a few verses from scripture that address this.

James 1:2-4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Philippians 1:6

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight

Philippians 4:12-13

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Joshua 1:5-6

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

We can face the facts of our conditions through our faith in Christ. Faith has power over facts. This is the great mystery.

This makes God who he is. He is not limited by facts, his whole being has been defeating the facts.

Parting of seas
Raising the dead
Healing the blind
Walking on water
Calming storms
Feeding the five thousand
Turning water into wine

He is in fact busting business.

Our faith, ironically, can be based however on the FACT that God is real and at work in our lives.

Let’s face that fact!
