Psalms 139:1-12
Psalm 139
For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Pick a time of day, a day of the month or month of the year that you turned towards God and He wasn’t there. Pick a location, whether it be in your private room, your favorite vacation spot, in the air, at sea or on the ground. Were you unable to find God in any of these places? Consider a circumstance, be it one of joy or that of sorrow, one of ease or a trial that was insurmountable when you called out God’s name, did He not hear you?
When deep in thought or in solitude or with thousands of people surrounding you, was God not able to make His way toward you?
For if we cannot hide from God then how is it that one would not know Him?
God placed in us his spirit that allows us to be in the presence of something yet not see it or experience it until our heart desires it. Once our heart is ready, then the scales from our eyes are removed.
Acts 9:18
18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,
“I was once blind but now I see.”
So, the question remains, how does my heart change in order that I may see God? It is when we slow down and begin to observe life around us?
Psalms 8:3-4
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
Then, as questions arise, your heart slowly opens to let God in. God promises that if you just seek Him with the smallest bit of desire you will find Him!
So if you have never encountered God or if you have walked with Him for many years, God is always present with you.
