It’s No Surprise

When we take time to consider our sinful nature, is it any surprise that trouble or temptation or fear come our way? If that is true, then why do we act so surprised when it does?

Brother Lawrence said that when we begin our spiritual walks, we should take a magnifying glass to ourselves to see what we’re made of.

Though we may agree that there is a spiritual battle that surrounds us and that our sinful nature is a result of Satan’s schemes, does it really matter where the sin comes from or what is the cause behind it? Or should we just be honest and concede that we have sinned and will continue to sin for that is our nature, and that we, by ourselves, cannot stop doing so on our own? For if we can truly understand this, then, we will understand where sin will lead us eventually. If we survey the events in the world, it is not hard to see the level of depravity that manifests itself when sin is left unchecked.

I think we are surprised when we sin for, we have a false read on ourselves and think we have sin under control. For we will do or think anything other than humbling ourselves by admitting we can’t do something and need help from another.

Let us not be surprised by the waves of sin that come our way but rather accept it as fact. We, then, will have the wisdom to prepare ourselves by turning to Christ to give us strength to go about our day. This act will no longer be one of reaction to the surprise of sin but rather a strategic plan to prepare us against it.

We can diminish the fear of sin by replacing it with the power of Christ.
