Do you find it interesting that our entire life we seek independence, to learn how to build ourselves up, educate ourselves, and pride ourselves on being independent? We drive cars, wear clothes, sport hairstyles, and tattoos to show we are independent.
Yet, in the end when independence didn’t sustain us in our times of trouble, we revert to being dependent on someone or something.
God has this figured out. He wants us to be so dependent on Him that He will give us total independence from the things of this world. He says He will protect us, provide for us, comfort us, love us, give us strength, perseverance, peace and joy. We can live without fear or condemnation. We can have abundance and live life fully. Then, to top it off, He gives us power over death through eternal life with Him!
Ask yourself what person, company, amount of money, power, prestige, medication, addiction, exercise, location, can you depend on in life to provide you all this? All else, besides depending on God, is like building your house on sinking sand.
Why then do we fight off the need to be dependent on something or someone? At the root you will find pride is the culprit.
How does it sound if you admit to those around you that you are dependent upon God for all things in life? If we are honest with ourselves, we would like to say, “I depend on God for certain things but for the most part, I’m in charge for most everything in my life.”
God asks for 100% dependence on Him. Is he a control freak or a very wise God? His formula states the more you die to yourself and depend on Him, the freer and more independent you truly are.
Matthew 10:39
39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
Try admitting you can’t and start agreeing that God can and see where God leads you today.
