Matthew 10:39
39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, what am I looking for out of this life? Each morning as you think about the day ahead, what is it you hope for? Have you ever given something away that was of importance to you only to walk away feeling extremely joyful? Have you served, or been compassionate, or cared for another person even when you didn’t want to? Have you ever achieved or experienced something great beyond your dreams only to find after the celebration, you were left with still yearning for more out of life?
Jesus talks about a radical experience when He says when we lose our life on behalf of Him that we will find what we are looking for. What are we looking for? Why do we strive so hard for something that will produce no return on our investment?
God says when we seek Him, we will find him and when we give ourselves to Him, we will receive life itself. When we receive life from God, we receive the fruits of the spirit the same way fruit is the offspring of an apple tree.
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
As we go about our day, we must ask ourselves again, what do I want to look for in my day; the things the world has told me or those that God has made available?
Oh, I almost forgot, there is a catch. When you seek the things of the world, that’s all you get. When you seek the ways of God, He has a way of throwing in the good things of the world as a bonus!
You will be looking for something today, just try not to look in all the wrong places.
