Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God asks us to love him and love his people.
We claim that nothing can separate us from God’s love for us, that we are washed clean from all our sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Now it’s our turn to turn the love we receive from God towards other people. Yet, we say just the opposite, we say that everything can separate us from loving others. Other people’s selfishness, their greed, their deception, their lust, their power, their possessions, their looks, their wrong doings, and on and on we go.
What does God see in us that we don’t see in others?
God knows we are sinners in need of a savior and therefore looks past our sin into the heart of each person.
We, on the other hand, look at the sin as being the person. We never see their heart, their pain, their insecurity, their needs.
We are made in God’s image and that is why He is transforming our hearts and minds to be like His. He asks us to love others in spite of their sin and to trust Him that He has our back on this.
If we will do this, we can go from feeling vulnerable for loving others to being bold in our love by allowing the Holy Spirit to flow through us to do what we can’t do on our own.
It would be great that someday another person, be it a family member, friend, colleague, or complete stranger could say that “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of Rich that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”
