Do you remember the famous line in the 1991 classic movie “City Slickers” where Curly played by Jack Palance, tells Mitch played by Billy Crystal, what the secret of life is? He said “One thing, figure your one thing that is important in life and everything else is meaningless.”
When it comes to God, the same is true. You have only one decision to make. Is God real? If he is real, then everything he says is true and that will alter everything in your life. Jesus refers to this as being born again.
Jesus confronts Nicodemus, a leader and highly educated man and just like Curly tells him there is one thing to believe in and if he does, he will have eternal life.
John 3:9-15
Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?”. Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”
One thing and everything will be better, the meaning of life will unveil itself in living color on the big screen.
Nicodemus didn’t have to summon up all his education to believe. In fact, because of his education he was at a disadvantage compared to a child who has childlike faith.
One thing is all God asks, do you or don’t you believe in my son, Jesus?
Stop searching, stop reading, stop looking, stop evaluating, stop building consensus, and decide, yes or no?
At that exact moment you believe and accept Jesus as Lord of your life, your eyes will be opened to all God has in store for you…like scales fell off your eyes.
Acts 9:18
And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized.
One thing, now be honest, you have been searching for that one thing, haven’t you?
Dig deep in your soul and see what’s behind all that drives you. You are seeking companionship, approval, security, power, love, position and more all to fill the hole in your heart, hoping one of these will fill it. God has that one thing you are looking for that will fill that longing. It’s not a list of to do’s or rituals.
No, it’s one thing. Jesus.
I hope today is that day you find the one thing you are searching for.
Just a Thought…
