1 Timothy 2:1-2
Instructions on Worship
2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Are we living peaceful, quiet lives? What does that even look like? Does it sound appealing to you?
At my first read, I felt a comforting sigh come from within. My life, as simple as it is, would not classify as peaceful and quiet. For it to be so, I picture a life without striving to compete in this world for imaginary prestige or the anxiety of rushing to take advantage of the next opportunity that we claim will satisfy us in some way, or the uncertainty of our safety arising from the hatred that lingers in the air from opposing parties.
To be able to wake up without worry and anxiety and stress about what lies ahead for the day and to take the day at a pace that provides time to enjoy my surroundings and be grateful and to eliminate hurry – this would be a dream come true! But God says this is not a dream that is imaginary, but rather a fact that can be achieved by the simple obedience to His calling for us. It is in front of us every day for the taking. He won’t change the happenings of the world around us, but He will shield our minds and souls from the effects and allow us to find peace and quiet in their midst.
This is not something on sale this week and gone thereafter. This is available 24/7, 365 days a year. We could have this be our way of life from this moment on forever. All it takes is to place our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
God made the instruction as simple and precise and with the fewest words so we all can understand.
“Place our trust in Jesus”
Five words that will create the most severe internal battle that you will ever face. For as we move closer towards building that trust in Jesus, our soul is screaming at a louder pitch not do so. Why is it we so desire to speak with our mouths we would love to have peace and quiet, but we at every opportunity to choose, steer towards a life of everything but?
