Supreme Leadership

Hebrews 2:14-15

14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Have you ever noticed when leaders see a problem, they will delegate someone to do the task? When in reality it can only be best done by the leader themselves? When a corporation has lost its way and is off mission, the only one that can put it back on track is the leader. Yet, in order for the leader to be successful, they must get out from behind the desk, roll up their sleeves, and get dirty by going into the middle of the chaos.

God, who is the ultimate leader, knew this principle well. He looked down from heaven and saw that there was a severe problem with His organization. His people had turned against Him and each other. They had lost their way. All other efforts from the past were no longer working. There were seasons when things went well, but they never lasted very long. There was a root problem that had to be eliminated once and for all. No longer sending His angels to do the work, He Himself must do it.

Philippians 2:4-8

not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
    by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

God went from sitting on the throne, to coming to earth, not as a king that everyone expected but rather in the humility, as He wanted His people to become. He knew in order to gain their trust He must get in the mix of things, get dirty, and feel and experience all that His people were facing. In doing this, He experienced physical pain, suffering, deep sorrow, abandonment, betrayal, temptation, ridicule, hatred, sadness, mourning, opposition, loneliness, and even to the extent of experiencing death. There was nothing He protected himself from.

Then in a way that only He could do, He rose from the dead, appeared to His people one last time to show that He has and will always overcome the ways of the world including death itself. Knowing that after every great presentation, in time, people will forget and lose their way again. He reached within Himself and gave His spirit to remain behind to be placed within the heart of those who would believe in the vision of the company to follow Him again. The spirit would be a forever personal trainer to help each person according to their need to protect them in the process.

Great leadership is only found in pure sacrifice of oneself for another. God is the model by which we must follow in order to lead well. He gave his life for the cause. What are you willing to give to further what you believe in?
