That’s My Child!!!

That’s my child the father yelled with pride!

Romans 5:8 (ESV)

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

As each one of us approaches the batting plate of the game of life, we hear our Heavenly Father yelling from the sidelines for the whole earth to hear filled with pride and excitement “That’s MY Child”!

Every child that comes up to bat can hear God’s voice cheering them on.

It’s important to remember that he is doing this before we ever take a swing.  He is so excited for us just walking up to the plate. He can see our fear, anxiousness, he knows our skill set, our inabilities or capabilities, our mistakes our accomplishments, our insecurity, and our confidence. He watches as we get up off the bench when our name is called. He hears our doubts, our challenging questions about why we have to play this game at all or how this game is so unfair.

Earthly fathers will find it easy to cheer their children on after they swing, but God died for us before we took a swing never tying his love for us to our performance.

His best love was given to us from the beginning not the end of life. His love does not grow bigger or get better as we perform. If we get a hit or strike out it makes no difference to him as far as his love goes. Oh, I imagine he shares our excitement when we succeed and sympathizes when we miss but either way it doesn’t change his love for us either way.

In fact, his heart warms when we trust him enough to just to try.  Even better yet, our father doesn’t sit in the stands and yell his proud affirmation. He is sitting with us on the bench, he is walking up to the plate, he is holding the bat with us and together he helps us swing away.

His words change from that’s my child to This is my son, my daughter.

He never misses a game or our turn at bat.

And when that day’s game is over and we sleep, getting rested for tomorrow, he is there working through the night figuring out the plan for the next game.

When the game is over and we look at the scoreboard, we see that we won and the stands filled with angels are on their feet cheering our names.

Our record so far, undefeated.
