Psalm 118: 24
The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad.
Have you ever planned a party or event for someone else’s benefit, maybe a birthday party, farewell gathering, baby shower, wedding, surprise party, anniversary, or celebration of an achievement? How long did it take you? How much did it cost you? How many ideas and thoughts went through your head to think of ways that the day will be truly special for that one person? How many others did you recruit to help you out?
Given some thought, I sense you will remember, for that period of time leading up to the event, that your mind was preoccupied with the person you wanted to bring joy to and you imagined, multiple times, their reaction as being one of rejoicing, gratefulness, of feeling honored and in amazement that you would go through the effort you did to make sure their day was one to remember.
When God asks us to rejoice in this day that He has made for us, He too, has given this day some prior thought with us in mind. He gave us miracles every day for our pleasure that we now just come to expect. Things like the sun rising or breath in our lungs. Yet, beyond the thousands of daily miracles that we walk by, God still finds new ways for us to rejoice in the day He made for us. I’m not talking about parting-the-sea type miracles, but rather subtle ones like feeling His presence, leaning on His faithfulness, or experiencing His miraculous peace amid turmoil. When God asks us to rejoice in the day He has made, He is asking us to slow down and take in the entire day and all it has to offer.
When our guest of honor shows up at the event, we made for them, we too, want them to look around and notice the decorations, the food, the people, the music, and the joy in the room. Would you agree that the greatest gift you can give to the host of the event in your honor would be to enjoy it? Let the host see your laughter and smile and that you are having a great time. Then, when it’s over, let the host know how grateful you were for them planning this event.
I heard someone say the best way to show God that you love him is to believe that He really loves you.
When our guest finishes their day, if we knew without a doubt they felt loved because of the event, then we will be well-pleased. Let God know that not only was this day worth rejoicing for, but even more so that you know He did all this for you because He loves you.
Just a Thought…
