John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
What do you think the peace of God looks like? Whose peace are you asking for when you say, “I would just like to have some peace in my life?” You must know or at least have a picture in mind of what that looks like. Where else can you get that peace?
First, God tells us that it is beyond our understanding, so forgive me for trying to define it.
Philippians 4:7;
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Yet I will attempt to describe what it looks like.
Could it be a combination of compassion and confidence? If you were able to walk in this world without a trace of need, fear, doubt, confusion, worry, anxiety or insecurity, how would feel? I think I would have a feeling I couldn’t explain other than “calm.” Yet, I think calm is not action. This coupled with compassion is what brings joy and a deeper sense of a different peace. For if I could walk this world in that state of calmness, I would then be able to see other people in a different light and have room for compassion. I would be able to observe the beauty of creation, which together is the secret ingredient to experiencing true joy. My heart would be full, and I would walk this world with the peace of God carrying me.
If I had this peace, how then would my leadership of others look? Is this possible?
Do you believe it? What else would you think you would want? Where else can you get it?
