Matthew 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Have you heard someone say, “Following God sure is hard work?” I ask you – which is harder: to live in this world with God or without Him?
To walk in this world, one will face all that it has to offer. There are many good things we can enjoy, such as sunny days with blue skies, white sandy beaches, snow-covered mountain tops, the birth of a child, the union of a marriage, the victory of your favorite sports team, the pride in your child’s accomplishment, the discovery of new places, or the soothing sound of a sweet melody. Yet, there is the ugly side of life that carries with its hatred, murder, rape, lust, greed, racism, oppression, addiction, disease, terrorism, and deep sadness. It seems at times, darkness outweighs the good. That is why it takes great strength to rise up and see the beauty in the moment.
When left to our own strength, walking without God, we become weary and heavy burdened. We collapse, concede, and yield to the darkness. We lose hope and many times give up.
When walking with God, the world as we know still exists with all it’s good and bad.
Yet God says, “When the bad comes, hold tight to my hand and I will give you peace and joy during it. I will take on all the weight the darkness sends your way. All you must do is to believe. So, when the good of the world is in your sights, just praise me and when darkness comes, trust me and goodness will prevail.”
So, which is harder to face? This world without God or to believe in the One who overcame the world, which He will guide you through?
You decide.
