Galatians 2:20
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
The question begs to know who is behind the wheel. When we go about our day and interact with this world, people see our actions and emotions as a representation of who we are. If we are helpful, lending a hand to those in need, smiling, good-natured, people begin to ask what’s driving us to be that way.
The same is true if we are selfish, greedy, rude, angry or spiteful. People just see our outward actions and ask, “What is driving that person to be that way?”
So if Christ was behind the wheel, driving our hearts and souls, what would our actions look like to the world?
I propose they would look like Galatians 5:22-23;
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control.
If Christ isn’t driving, then I propose our actions would look like Galatians 5:19-20
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
So, is it that hard to discern the condition of the heart at any time day or night? Or is it just a matter of not taking the time to do so? If we would ask ourselves throughout the day, “Which list is my heart portraying?” I think we would quickly know what the next best step to take would be. Either to praise God for the great things He’s doing through us, or to seek Him for help to overcome the circumstances that have drawn us away from Him.
We, as leaders, have a responsibility to do a heart check on ourselves. The condition of the heart will drive how we lead for that day.
